The Cancer Council

Thank you
I would like to thank everyone who helped raise over $60,000 (and counting) for the Cancer Council. From individual donations, to corporate sponsors, to volunteers at our events, everyone’s involvement has made this event a fantastic success for a very worthy cause.

Congratulations and thank you to all the cyclists and support crew involved in completing the Melbourne to Uluru challenge. What an amazing and inspiring group of generous people dedicating two weeks of their life, away from family and friends to take on this challenge for The Cancer Council. It takes a superhuman effort cycling that far, an achievement to be very proud of.

Going back to finish - A note from Andrew Hogben
Unfortunately for myself, I did not complete the ride to Uluru. Whilst I was terribly unprepared physically due to injury, I still managed to cycle to Adelaide. On the morning of leaving Adelaide, I woke up with a horrible fever which left me feeling sick, very weak and unable to eat which meant I could not ride. That night I ended up visiting a country hospital with a fever around 40. Thanks to the extra support of Emily and Cara I recovered over the following 4 days. By this time we had entered the Northern Territory and was therefore too late to get back on the bike. However, I do intend to keep my promise and complete the ride. I still have 1,582km to finish!

In April 2010, I am returning to Adelaide and cycling to Uluru to finish what I initially started - eventually allowing the claim of all cyclists completing the event.

Lance Armstrong Lance Armstrong Supporting our Cause
Lance Armstrong has learnt of our event and has donated a signed jersey to auction off in order to help with raising money. To place an offer for the jersey, please contact Andrew Hogben andrew.hogben@rowben.com.au

We have achieved our $50,000 target, but we want to raise more with the help of everyone we can further help to assist in fighting cancer with the Cancer Council.

2009 Melbourne to Uluru / Ayers Rock Cycling Challenge

Andrew Hogben, Paul Bowden, Daniel Rossignoli, Phil Neckers, Fran Wellington, Mark Chircop, Craig Everard, David Durad, Tom Melican, Jeff Hilder, Peter Doonan & Adam Pater are cycling together from Melbourne to Ayers Rock in order to raise money to fight Cancer.

With people close to them recently affected by Cancer, Andrew, Paul, Daniel, Phil, Fran, Mark, Craig, David, Tom, Jeff, Peter & Adam aim to help raise funds through public donations, individual sponsorship and corporate sponsorship in order to help combat against this terrible disease.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 for The Cancer Council, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to cancer research and cancer support, prevention and advocacy.

We will be setting off on the 30th of August 2009 from Federation Square in Melbourne and will arrive at Ayers rock in Uluru on the 11th of September 2009.

The challenge covers a total distance of 2,317km and is scheduled over a 13 day period, averaging 180km per day.

We are all expecting the ride to be a grueling challenge over a tough two week period, but look forward to completing it on time while we raised funds for an excellent cause.

Every donation counts! All donations over $2 are tax deductable. A receipt is provided for every donation.

Please help, get behind us and donate to this worthy cause.

"The thing I like about Andrew is that he's just an ordinary guy who has decided to do something extraordinary to fight cancer. It really makes you think about what you could do to make a difference. You might not be able to ride to Uluru / Ayers Rock, but we can all reach into the back pocket to help him raise funds - why not donate today?"
